Michigan: Take Action and Oppose Senate Bill 111 Today!
Dear [Lawmaker],
I am writing to strongly urge you to oppose Senate Bill 111, which has passed the Senate and now awaits consideration in the House. This bill is a dangerous overreach that undermines both due process and Second Amendment rights. SB 111 would allow individuals to petition a court for a Personal Protective Order (PPO) against someone simply because they believe that person may own or purchase a firearm—without requiring any evidence of a crime, threat, or mental health crisis. Even more concerning, SB 111 drastically expands who can file these petitions, and lowers the standards needed to strip someone of their constitutional rights. A judge could issue a PPO and order the removal of firearms before the accused even has a chance to defend themselves in court. This bill sets a dangerous precedent for Michigan and the nation. It compromises fundamental liberties under the guise of public safety, while doing little to actually address violent crime or those truly in crisis. Please vote NO on Senate Bill 111. I urge you to stand for due process, fairness, and the constitutional rights of all Michiganders. Thank you for your time and service.
Sincerely,
______
