Maine: Governor Mills Proposes Major Cost Increases to Hunting, Fishing, and Archery License Fees
Dear [Lawmaker],
I recently learned of Governor Mills' proposal to increase the cost of resident and non-resident hunting and fishing licenses in Maine. This 16% cost increase for Mainers and a 5% increase for non-residents unfairly burdens hunters with shouldering the costs for Maine's out-of-control spending. Furthermore, by increasing costs, Maine will see a decrease in hunters, further damaging our rural economies, create harmful ecological overpopulation, and undermine Maine's proud hunting heritage. A recent NRA study highlighted that Maine has over 200,000 hunting license holders, which provide over $307,000,000 in annual economic impact. Restricting hunting rights would be felt from Kittery to Fort Kent, with rural economies throughout the state being hit the hardest. Instead of finding new ways to arbitrarily restrict hunting rights in Maine, lawmakers would be better served by increasing, not limiting, hunting access. I encourage you to review the study here: https://www.nraila.org/articles/20241218/maine-prepare-for-progressives-to-attack-your-hunting-rights I urge you to vote against any fee increase to hunting and fishing licenses in Maine. Thank you for your service to our great state.
Sincerely,
______
