Support the Nonprofit Security Grant Program

Since October 7th, Jewish communities in the United States have faced a significant increase in antisemitism and hate crimes, with the FBI reporting that anti-Jewish hate crimes spiked by 63% in 2023 and the Jewish community being the target of 15% of all hate crimes and 68% of all religious-based hate crimes.

We thank our Congressional champions for allocating an additional $400 Million for the Nonprofit Security Grant Program (NSGP) in the National Security Supplemental package in addition to $284.5 million in the Fiscal Year 2024 Homeland Security appropriations bill.

Despite Congress’s leadership and efforts to equip our communities with necessary resources, Jewish institutions are still threatened with violence. In fact, ADL recently reported that over 10,000 antisemitic incidents occurred in the United States over the past year, including more than 2,000 incidents at Jewish institutions. Jewish communities require additional security funding and resources to keep themselves safe. To do so, we call on our champions to allocate $500 million for the 2026 Nonprofit Security Grant Program, ensuring that our communities can continue to flourish without fear. Over the past year, the Jewish community has experienced a significant rise in antisemitism following the October 7th attacks. As a concerned constituent and activist in the Jewish Federations system, I am urging you to support increasing funding for the Nonprofit Security Grant Program (NSGP) to $500 Million in the 2026 Fiscal Year Homeland Security Appropriations bill.
Over the last year, according to the FBI, the Jewish community and its institutions have been the victim of 68% of all hate crimes in the United States, including vandalism, bomb threats, and antisemitic protests.
 Furthermore, the ADL recently reported that over 10,000 antisemitic incidents occurred in the United States over the past year, including dozens of bomb threats directed towards Jewish institutions and more than 1,200 incidents which occurred on college campuses, including Hillels and Chabad Houses.
NSGP helps protect houses of worship from these kinds of threats, providing funds for bullet-proof windows, security doors, fences, cameras, and even security guards to keep our communities safe and allow them to gather without fear.
Despite Congress’s efforts to allocate emergency and annual funding for the Nonprofit Security Grant Program, 58% of applicants in 2023 and 2024 were denied funding due to funding constraints. The demand for this program further increased after October 7, 2023, as 71% of Fiscal Year 2024 NSGP grant recipients were first-time applicants.
Meanwhile, the need for NSGP grants continues to increase exponentially.
By supporting a $500 million NSGP allocation in the Fiscal Year 2026 appropriations bill, you will demonstrate your strong commitment in supporting the Jewish community.
