We Need Your Help Protecting Oregon Rental Housing!

On Feb. 17, the Legislature will hold a hearing on FOUR critical bills that are a high priority for anyone who wants to see some stability return to Oregon’s rental housing market.

We’re supporting HB 2305, which would prevent repeat violations of rental agreements.

We’re opposing HB 3521, which would penalize housing providers who are unable to execute lease agreements, even for reasons outside their control.

We’re opposing HB 2134, which would allow tenants to break leases early.

We’re opposing HB 2967, which would ban screening fees.

Dear [Lawmaker],

As a housing provider in Oregon, I wanted to take a moment to outline my position on a few bills that have a hearing in the House Committee on Housing and Homelessness on Feb. 17.

I support HB 2305, which would prevent repeat violations of rental agreements. This is a common sense proposal that will allow housing providers to terminate a lease after three violations.

I oppose HB 3521, which would unfairly penalize housing providers who are unable to execute lease agreements, even for reasons outside their control.

I also oppose HB 2134, which would allow tenants to break leases early. Fixed-term leases are essential for housing providers to predict income and make investments in our properties.

And finally, I also oppose HB 2967, which would ban screening fees. We need to be able to recoup some of the costs associated with screening qualified applicants, otherwise we risk the safety and wellbeing of all residents.
