Rhode Island: Oppose S.359A — Semi-Auto Ban
Dear [Lawmaker],
As a Rhode Island resident and your constituent, I urge you to veto Senate Bill 359A, the so-called “Assault Weapons Ban,” which was passed at the close of the 2025 legislative session. This legislation is an unnecessary and extreme infringement on the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens. S.359A targets commonly owned rifles, shotguns, and handguns based on cosmetic features, not function. These firearms are used safely by millions of Americans for lawful purposes such as self-defense, sporting, and hunting. While the bill stops short of banning possession, it still imposes harsh penalties on the lawful sale, transfer, and purchase of these firearms — turning law-abiding gun owners and dealers into felons for merely exercising their rights. Please stand up for the constitutional rights of Rhode Islanders by vetoing S.359A. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
