I’m a California small business leader, and I’m writing to urge you to oppose the COMPETE Act, AB 1776.

The COMPETE Act would cost my business more than $16,000 per year in lost sales. Across California, that adds up to over $356 billion in lost small-business sales over the next five years. Small businesses like mine already operate on razor-thin margins, where every customer and every sale counts. We can't afford another hit.

Like many small businesses, I use affordable, integrated digital tools to reach customers, streamline operations, and stay competitive. Services like Fulfillment by Amazon and Google’s integrated business platform provide the logistics, insights, and advertising capabilities that help me convert sales, operate efficiently, and grow. When these tools become more expensive or less effective, small businesses like mine pay the price.

At a time when so many businesses are struggling, another barrier to success is the last thing we need. I urge you to consider the real financial impact this bill will have on California small businesses like mine and oppose AB 1776.
