As Oregon prepares to begin a new legislative session, we are seriously concerned that the conversation around our housing crisis will once again be lopsided.
Some activist groups are sounding the alarm about the recent announcement that rents are allowed to rise by 14.6% in 2023.
In 2022, the average rent increase was about 5% according to a recent statewide report. The allowable increase for this year was 9.9%. We need to shine a light on this fact.
We have to speak up and change the narrative.
Otherwise, the law that tied statewide rent control to cost of living will be revisited this next session, and the rate cap could be decreased to as low as 3%.
Legislators need to know how that would impact housing stability in Oregon. Send a message now.
