Tell Your Senator to Oppose SB 2!
Dear [Lawmaker],
As a constituent, I ask you to please oppose SB2, and any legislation to require a permit to exercise the Second Amendment right to acquire a handgun. Such a scheme will do nothing to hinder criminals who regularly acquire firearms illegally. The fees for background checks, fingerprinting, and mandatory training amount to significant burdens of both money and time. This will make it more difficult for low income, the elderly, and other disadvantaged classes, who are more likely to be victims of violent crime, to be able to acquire a handgun legally. In addition, creating a registry of lawful handgun transfers in Delaware is a waste of money, is a further burden on law-abiding citizens, and will not improve public safety. Criminals, by definition, do not follow the law. They will not comply with any requirements to get a license or register their handguns, which are often stolen. A registry serves no other purpose than to facilitate future confiscations of firearms by anti-gun regimes. Thank you for all that you do for our state.
Sincerely,
______
