Alabama: Take Action and Tell Lawmakers to OPPOSE House Bills 12 & 58!

Dear [Lawmaker],

As a fellow resident of Alabama and strong supporter of the Second Amendment, I urge you to OPPOSE House Bills 12 and 58 today.

House Bill 12 bans an individual from possessing, obtaining, receiving, selling, or using a bump stock by making it a Class C Felony. Last year, the Supreme Court ruled that the federal ban on bump stocks was unconstitutional in a 6–3 decision in the Garland v. Cargill case. The Supreme Court held that the NFA’s definition of “machinegun” clearly does not cover bump stocks and thus that the ATF exceeded its statutory authority by classifying bump stocks as such.

House Bill 58 creates a new crime for a person's failure to inform law enforcement, upon request, that they are carrying or possessing firearms. This will have a disproportionate impact on law-abiding persons carrying firearms, as those in violation cannot be compelled under the Fifth Amendment to incriminate themselves.

Again, I ask that you OPPOSE House Bills 12 & 58. Thank you for all that you do for our state.
