Hawaii: OPPOSE Senate Bill 401 Today!

Dear [Lawmaker],

As a resident of Hawaii, I respectfully urge you to oppose Senate Bill 401, as well as the procedural tactics being used to advance it through the legislature.

SB 401 would ban semi-automatic rifles with certain characteristics, “assault shotguns,” and standard capacity magazines, stripping away the rights of law-abiding citizens while doing nothing to address violent crime. This bill unfairly targets responsible gun owners and undermines our constitutional freedoms.

Even more troubling is the way this legislation is being pushed forward. Lawmakers inserted the language of House Bill 893, which had already failed to advance, directly into SB 401—bypassing the committee hearing process in the Senate. This procedural “gun and replace” maneuver erodes transparency and sidesteps the checks and balances meant to protect public input.

I urge you to stand against SB 401 and reject any attempts to circumvent the legislative process. Protect the Second Amendment rights of Hawaii residents and ensure that all legislation is given a fair and transparent hearing.
