New Hampshire: Senate Vote Ahead on Gun Bills, Including Preemption and Campus Carry

Dear [Lawmaker],

As a fellow resident of New Hampshire and your constituent, I strongly encourage you to reconsider committee recommendations and SUPPORT THE STRONGEST VERSIONS OF H.B. 1365, H.B. 609, and H.B. 1793 when they arrive on the floor.

H.B. 1365 increases privacy protections for applicants for a New Hampshire carry permit by eliminating the requirement to provide references, employment information, or private health information. While New Hampshire is a constitutional carry state, many residents still need to obtain the optional carry permit to travel to other states, and should not be forced to divulge information beyond what is pertinent to a background check.

H.B. 609, as passed in the House, strengthens New Hampshire's preemption law in critical ways by expanding its scope to include both political subdivisions and state agencies, establishing enforcement mechanisms, and extending protection to all defensive weapons in addition to firearms. Strong preemption laws eliminate a confusing patchwork of local rules and inconsistent regulation by local authorities and state agencies. This bill would make clear that the legislature intends to occupy the entire field of regulation as to the right to keep and bear arms.

H.B. 1793, as passed in the House, ensures that young adults who are lawfully permitted to protect themselves off campus are afforded the same rights when on campus at public universities in the Granite State. Gun-free zones do not increase public safety; they merely leave peaceable people as defenseless soft targets and easy prey.

These bills are critical to ensure that the Second Amendment rights of everyone in the Granite State are not infringed upon. Again, I urge you to SUPPORT strong versions  of these bills when they arrive on the floor.
