Washington: Hearing Scheduled for Permit-To-Purchase Bill
Dear [Lawmaker],
As a fellow resident of Washington, I urge you to please OPPOSE HB 1163 in your committee. HB 1163 creates a permit-to-purchase requirement for the purchase, transfer, and possession of firearms. This is akin to placing financial, educational, and state-approval restrictions on law-abiding gun owners to exercise their Second Amendment rights in our state. The State of Washington is facing a $12 billion deficit. HB 1163’s fiscal note suggests that passage of this bill will cost the state more than $20 million dollars it does not have to spend, and this total is woefully underestimated. Law-abiding firearm owners will continue to be the only ones impacted by another gun-control law in Washington. Washington State Police data shows that the firearms used in crimes come mostly from 3 places – stolen, black market, and straw-purchased, which are all already illegal means. HB 1163 will continue to punish and cost the law-abiding their rights, while doing nothing to address Washington’s escalating crime problem. This bill does nothing to address crime in Washington, and only places undue burdens on law-abiding gun owners. Again, I urge you to OPPOSE HB 1163 in your committee. Thank you for all that you do for our state.
Sincerely,
______
