The city of Gresham is proposing an astronomical increase in the annual per-unit rental fee, which funds the citywide rental inspection program.
For small housing providers (1-2 units), the increase represents a 36% increase, and for large housing providers (200+ units), it’s more than 375%.
Already one of the highest such fees in the state, city staff are asking the council to approve this increase so they can increase compliance and enforcement resources, as well as fund a new homeless shelter inspection program.
While this may be well-intended, it’s not the right time to increase fees by such a significant amount, for unproven programs that are not established community priorities.
