Dear Members of the Mecklenburg County Board of Supervisors,
As residents of Mecklenburg County, we recognize the growing demand for reliable energy to support our homes, schools, businesses, and future development.
Dominion Energy’s Finneywood Solar project will help meet that need with clean, locally generated power, strengthening our energy independence while supporting Virginia’s transition to a more sustainable grid.
We also believe in building a strong local economy while protecting the character and heritage that make our community special. Over its lifetime, the project is expected to generate about $7.5 million in local revenue from revenue sharing and increased real estate taxes—compared to just $130,000 if the land remains in agricultural use.
Construction will create jobs and boost local businesses, with over $30 million in contracts and wages going to local workers and suppliers.
Dominion Energy has committed to hiring locally and offering on-site training, helping residents qualify for future solar jobs. Once operational, the site will be maintained by small crews, keeping the footprint low while continuing to support the local economy.
This project offers clear, long-lasting benefits for Mecklenburg County. It will diversify our local economy, deliver reliable new tax revenue to support essential services, and create good local jobs during construction.
We see Dominion Energy’s Finneywood Solar as a smart, sustainable investment in Mecklenburg County’s future.
We respectfully encourage you to approve its Special Exemption Permit so our community can share in these benefits for many years to come.
